Being overweight is now a very big problem all over the world. One in ever five people, wither want to lose weight, or is undergoing one diet plan or the other.

Here are some of the dangers of being overweight:

1. First and very important, is the heart. the heart is like the main workaholic organ in your body. It supplies the whole body, as well as it self, with blood. Being overweight thus puts more pressure on the heart, because it now has greater work to do.  Thus being over weight puts an extra strain on the heart.
For blacks especially, who have more cases of hypertension, obesity is one of the risk factors.

2. The joints:   due to the fact that your joints now have so much more weight to carry around,  overweight people are most likely to suffer from joint problems like arthritis and rheumatism. the commonest joint involved in this kind of problem is usually the knee joints. Most patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other joint problems are usually advised to lose more weight so as to reduce the pains felt.

3. The lungs: being.
overweight makes the chestwall thick with fat and thus breathing movements also become more difficult.  Most overweight people often get very tired with the slightest form of exercise.

4. Diabetes: Obesity is a known risk factor for diabetes.

5. Hernias: from the too much weight in the body.

These are just a few of the dangers of being overweight.

Weight lifting is a very important component of weight loss when exercising. Exercising with weights actually causes you to lose more weight. Actually heavier people burn more calories compared to people of lesser weight doing the same exercise.

Exercising with dumbbells helps you burn more when you exercise. If for example, you weigh 60 kilograms, exercising with two 5kg dumbbells helps you lose the same weight that someone who weighs 70kg would lose!!

When exercising, jogging or taking walks, try to incorporate weights with it, that way you can burn more calories than you would ordinarily!!

CARBOHYDRATES AND WEIGHT LOSS

The major source from which carbohydrates are gotten is usually from plants. Our bodies convert the carbohydrates which we eat, into monosaccarides . The monosaccarides are taken to the liver where they are converted to glucose. Glucose is broken down to ATP which is stored in our muscles and liver, and are finally converted the fatty acids which are stored in our fatty tissue as triglycerides(FAT)

Now the question is should you avoid carbohydrates totally when trying to lose weight?

Well, the first thing we should always remember  is that it is actually a low calorie diet that causes weight loss. The only assistance in which choosing the group of food you eat offers is that for carbohydrates, low intake of carbohydrate starves your body of energy and causes  it to look go into your fat stores and utilise them for energy.

If you want to avoid carbohydrates, the types you would mostly avoid are the simple carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates are digested quickly by the body.  Simple sugars consists of  one or two sugars, while complex sugars are made  up of three or more sugars.  Some examples of simple sugars include sweets,  white bread, rice.

The complex carbohydrates are usually rich in starch content and fiber content. They take a longer time to be digested than the simple carbohydrates.  Some good sources of this complex carbohydrates include vegetables, fruits, brown rice, beans etc.

Remember that a gram of carbohydrate contains 4 calories, so if the food label says that food contains 100 g of carbs it means its 400 calories!

If you want to avoid carbohydrates, don’t avoid them totally, instead trying cutting out the simple ones from your diet!!

Keep in mind that no matter the food group you choose from, what is actually more important is the calorie intake. Ensure you burn more than your body needs!

Lesson 1:     Avoid starving yourself.  Starving yourself does not help you lose weight.  When you don’t eat, your body tries to store all the energy it has in it, thus reducing your rate of metabolism. Besides after starving yourself for such a long period of time, you are probably tempted to eat more during your next meal, plus your body also converts whatever food it receives into energy source i.e. fat thus wasting your weight loss efforts.

Lesson 2 Eat lots of fruits. Fruits are high in fibre and aid easy digestion.

Lesson 3: Always be on the move, instead of taking the elevator, climb the stairs, it helps to keep our metabolism rate high.

 Lesson 4: Don’t rush your food. Most of the time it takes a while before the  brain that your tummy is full. 

 Lesson 5: Try to avoid alcoholic drinks.

Lesson 6: Get a partner. This is useful, could give you encouragement.

 Lesson 7: Don’t skip breakfast.

8. Drink a lot of water. At least 8 cups of water a day! And if possible, a glass hourly.
